Leebotwood Broadplace
The first Special Events week has been a success, and many more people than usual were able to get access to the computers and equipment, to try just some of the wide range of software available, and to gain advice from volunteers and experts.

Computer games were the focus of the early evening on the first day. Flight Simulator, 'xbox' and online games were all played by young and the not so young. The digital projector and loud speaker system were plugged in to add atmosphere and a lot of noise!

Family History
An introduction to Family History took place during our summer events week. The event was well attended and Dot Hills from the Shropshire Family History Society led a workshop demonstrating where to search and how to avoid the pitfalls.

A follow up evening took place during our new program that started in September. Once more Dot was on hand and those who took part climbed further into the branches of their family trees.

Film Making

The film making event held on 30th August was another success, thanks to the help of free lance film maker, editor and workshop leader,
Emma Puente, and Flavia Cheshire of Shropshire broadplaces (not forgetting our own broadplace volunteers) and of course all those film makers who took part.

Four short films were made about Leebotwood and the surrounding area, including a focus on the church, Acton Burnell Manor House (Castle), and the contrast between the old and new in the village iteself.

The films were transferred to computer, edited, and formatted for viewing at the end of a very productive and creative day.

There will be a follow up event on the 2nd October, in case you missed out this time!

Special Events Week
The Events week has been well attended, and the Broadplace steering group would like to thank all who helped run the sessions and those that attended.

Building a Website
Small business and personal website creators were able to find out how to design their own sites and 'publish’ them on the internet. Practical demonstrations for creating and 'uploading' pages were given, and tips for optimsing sites for search engines were given.

Animation workshop
The animation workshop was a great success, and at least 5 short animations were produced in the 3 hour session. Replicating stop frame animation techniques, digital cameras and animation software was used to make the short films and there was a lot of visual creativity in the finished works. Thank you to Martin and Flavia for your help.

A further workshop exploring short film making will take place in August. Full details will be given on these pages soon.

More Information
Our Autumn Events program continues. Emma Puente once more gave expert advice on Digital Film Making, and a film was created, edited and shown on the big screen within two hours. It was even more impressive when you consider the film makers were making their first film and using the film editing software for the first time.

Jane Edwards led a session on computer basics for beginners, and Dot Hills has once more helped family tree detectives.

If you want to know more about the Broadplace, please contact me on 01694 751470.
The steering group and volunteers will be pleased to help you at the drop-in sessions and other special events.
